Brother John Kattke got his nickname from Sammy Fender, playing a steady Sunday afternoon gig on Chicago’s southside at 58th and Prairie. When Earl King came to Chicago to perform at Buddy Guy‘s legends, John was chosen to be part of the back up band. He’s also performed at Tipitina‘s in New Orleans with Buddy Guy and Wayne Bennett, and the jazz & heritage festival with Dave Specter and Jimmy Johnson. Has been influenced by all traditional blues artists in his guitar and singing styles and draws piano influences from varied styles ranging from Professor Long Hair to Ray Charles. Plays a custom Epiphone Les Paul for slide and open tuning, and Gibson ES347 hollow body guitars with Fender and sometimes Gibson amps, usually tweed Bassman; and uses Roland VK7 for organ and favors the real feel of a good house piano. www.brotherjohn.com
