Paul is grateful for his music education prior to and at DePaul, where he grew to appreciate a mix of ‘street’ and ‘formal’ musical attitudes. Out of school my 1st gig was 5 nights on Rush St. with later-acclaimed Vegas performer Bill Acosta, Man of 1000 Voices. After jobbing with many of Chicago’s major society orchestras, doing several jingle sessions as that link was vanishing, Paul met Pete Special through mutual friend bassist Jon Brant where they played weekly at Karoak Jacks on the north side. Here Lynne Jordan came and sat in. Pete postponed his more acoustic eclectic originals to form a hard grooving blues show around Lynne. Pete Special & The Shivers became Lynne Jordan & The Shivers. Paul played with Lynne for many years which opened the door for other blues scene opportunities to jam with Buddy Guy, cover for the late great Pinetop Perkins, who was a no show one evening we had opened forThe Legendary Blues Band (Muddy’s band) and to tour with the late great Junior Wells. They shared the bill with Johnny Johnson, Charles Brown, and Los Lobos at a Bluesfest they did in Brazil in ’96 and opened Chicago Bluesfest ’99. Paul was with the Pete Special Band for several years in the 90’s as well. Paul has played many shows with Skip Towne over the years and is always a welcome addition to the lineup.
